Legislature Passes Bill Changing PTSD Workers’ Compensation Rules for LEOFF Members

April 05, 2018
On March 23, 2018, Governor Inslee signed SSB 6214 changing how post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) claims are handled as on-the-job injuries and establishing PTSD as a presumptive disease for LEOFF members. What does this mean? There are a lot of questions surrounding the bill. Members want to know what it does, and how it will be administered by the Department of Labor and Industries and the Department of Retirement Systems. Details regarding this topic will be discussed during a panel presentation at the upcoming Educational Seminar hosted by the Washington State Council of Fire Fighters. Additionally, a report and presentation will also be given at the Board’s April 25 meeting.
